About the role

Jeppesen ForeFlight builds the flight planning and navigation software that pilots use in the cockpit. A lot of that software has been running for years, and parts of it need to be modernized. That is the work.

This is not a greenfield job. You will spend your time inside systems someone else built, working out what a vague requirement actually means, and taking the change all the way: design, implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and keeping it stable afterwards. You will do it in a small cross-functional product team.

A large share of that work happens with coding agents. We are not looking for someone who has heard of them. We are looking for someone who has shipped real changes with them and knows where they break: how to scope a task so an agent can execute it, what context it needs, and how to tell a good generated solution from one that merely compiles. The code is still yours when it goes to production.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and operate software supporting aviation products and modernization initiatives.

  • Turn ambiguous product outcomes into clear technical designs, interfaces, acceptance criteria, and well-scoped units of work.

  • Use coding agents and other AI-assisted tools across the lifecycle: exploring unfamiliar code, implementing, refactoring, migrating, debugging, testing, and reviewing.

  • Structure work so that engineers and agents can both execute on it, including running tasks in parallel where it makes sense and integrating the results coherently.

  • Evaluate AI-generated solutions for correctness, architecture, security, maintainability, performance, and fit with the systems already in place.

  • Put the right verification around changes: automated testing, static analysis, security tooling, observability, end-to-end validation, and manual review.

  • Integrate new capabilities with existing systems, workflows, and aviation data formats, and manage the compatibility and migration risk that comes with it.

  • Surface technical risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs early, and explain them clearly.

  • Take part in code review, production support, and improving how the team works, including how it works with agents.

Basic qualifications

  • Strong software engineering skills in Python or another general-purpose language.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, delivering, and operating production software.

  • Demonstrated experience using coding agents or comparable AI-assisted tools to deliver meaningful changes in real systems, with your own approach to evaluating and improving what they produce.

  • Ability to break ambiguous work into clear, bounded tasks with enough context, constraints, and acceptance criteria for both humans and agents.

  • Solid grounding in testing, CI/CD, observability, security, source control, maintainability, and production operations.

  • Experience working in cloud environments and integrating with existing systems and architectures.

  • Strong technical judgment, problem-solving ability, and clear written and verbal communication.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience developing or improving agentic development workflows, repository instructions, automated verification, or developer tooling.

  • Experience coordinating multiple agent tasks, or using agents for substantial refactors, migrations, or cross-cutting changes.

  • Experience modernizing, extending, or integrating with complex legacy production systems.

  • Experience delivering across multiple layers of a system.

  • Experience in regulated, safety-critical, or high-reliability environments.

  • Aviation-domain experience, particularly as a pilot, dispatcher, or developer of aviation software.

The company

About Jeppesen ForeFlight Jeppesen ForeFlight makes the flight planning, navigation and charting software that pilots use in the cockpit. Airlines, business aviation operators and avionics manufacturers rely on our aeronautical data, and that data has to be correct every time it is published. Our Gdansk office is one of the company’s engineering sites in Europe. You would join the Data Delivery and Enablement organisation, working on the systems that assemble and deliver navigation data products to customers on a fixed publication cycle.
