About the role

Pilots rely on navigation data that is correct every time it is published. We are building the next generation of the AWS backend that produces that data: the services that assemble aeronautical navigation files and deliver them to airlines and avionics manufacturers in the formats their systems can read.

The hard part is volume against a deadline. The system has to produce several hundred large files inside a short window, every publication cycle, without failing. You will work on the architecture that makes that hold: how the work is distributed, what happens when something breaks mid-run, and how the whole thing scales when new product types are added.

You will not be building this alone. Several component teams own different parts of the pipeline, so a good share of the work is designing clean integration points and getting them to work together.

Key responsibilities

  • Design scalable and resilient backend architecture that can support growth, high processing volumes, and new products with minimal engineering effort.

  • Apply cloud security best practices across services, infrastructure, automation, access control, and deployment processes.

  • Identify and mitigate risks, issues, and technical debt in backend services and cloud infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with other component teams for integration activities.

  • Document technical decisions, risks, and operational procedures so other teams can act on them.

Required qualifications

  • Production experience developing with Python and PostgreSQL.

  • Experience developing and operating in AWS environments, including cloud-native architecture patterns and common cloud operational practices.

  • Familiarity with cloud security best practices, including access control, patch management, secrets handling, and secure service configuration.

  • Experience with static analysis and code scanning tools such as SonarQube, and with keeping code quality gates in place as a system grows.

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across application code, infrastructure, containers, databases, and cloud services.

  • Experience using AI-augmented development tools such as Claude, Codex, or similar coding assistants in real production work, with your own approach to reviewing and verifying what they produce. You stay accountable for the quality, security, and maintainability of the result.

  • Ability to work independently on moderately complex technical problems while collaborating with senior engineers and cross-functional teams in a global environment, with the communication skills that requires.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with JavaScript and a modern frontend framework such as React or Angular.

  • Experience with the Java language.

  • Experience developing software within a regulated environment such as aerospace, financial, or medical domains.

  • Hands-on experience with Linux and Docker.

  • Experience with database performance troubleshooting, schema changes, or data migration.

  • Experience improving CI/CD, HA/DR, monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices.

  • Experience building agentic engineering workflows for complex codebases, including repository instructions, automated verification, or developer tooling.

The company

About Jeppesen ForeFlight Jeppesen ForeFlight makes the flight planning, navigation and charting software that pilots use in the cockpit. Airlines, business aviation operators and avionics manufacturers rely on our aeronautical data, and that data has to be correct every time it is published. Our Gdansk office is one of the company’s engineering sites in Europe. You would join the Data Delivery and Enablement organisation, working on the systems that assemble and deliver navigation data products to customers on a fixed publication cycle.
